A
Brief history:
Joe was born and raised in Northern New Mexico. He's happily married
with 3 wonderful daughters. Joe and his family live in Boulder Colorado
with Hunter their Golden Retriever. Joe has traveled to 16 countries from
Asia to Africa to the Carribean, but Italy is still his favorite place
to visit.
Work
History:
Joe's former career was as a Professional Ski Patrolman in Aspen
Colorado. "I would probably still be skiing for a living, but over
time taking pictures surpassed the joy of those freezing 8 a.m. chairlift
rides to work every morning."
School:
After their first daughter Leah was born, Joe and his wife Janet left
Aspen so Joe could attend Brooks
Institute in Santa Barbara CA. Joe graduated in 1990 and immediately
moved back to Colorado. "California is nice, but you really wouldn't
want to live there..."
On Style:
"Although
I started off photographing products for catalogs I got bored of the studio
and I've gravitated to location photography which is much more interesting
to me. I really love mixing natural light with my own light, especially
with people."
News:
Joe is now fully entrenched as a digital photographer. Although he began using a monster Leaf Volare in the studio, he now uses the Nikon
D1X and his new D2X for almost all of his assignments,... although he still hasn't given
up his trusty 4x5 or RZ yet.
Note: I am planning on updating my whole site soon to reflect my decision to focus more on my documentary work. Thanks for your understanding if things haven't changed here in a while.
